YLabs is seeking an experienced Grants Lead to oversee end-to-end grant management: donor financial reporting, subrecipient/subgrantee financial compliance and fund disbursement workflows under an Incubation Aggregator Partnership Model. The Grants Lead will lead the newly established Grants & Compliance Unit within the finance department and own the full lifecycle of restricted donor funding, proposal budgeting and donor financial reporting.
Key responsibilities:
- Partner identification, due diligence and contracting: lead financial capacity assessments of prospective partners, classify subrecipients into risk tiers (Low, Moderate, High) to set disbursement modalities, issue subrecipient agreements and guide onboarding.
- Fund management and grant administration: design standardized budget templates, manage disbursements, enforce financial reporting protocols and eligible vs. ineligible cost guidelines, run monthly budget-to-actual and cash flow reviews, oversee audits and corrective action plans.
- Financial consolidation: aggregate subrecipient spend in QuickBooks and report grant financial performance, spending rates, risk flags and liquidity to the Director of Finance.
- Subgrantee management: oversee the subgrant pipeline from call for proposals to closeout, train partner finance teams, conduct desk reviews and financial monitoring visits, and update subgrant manuals and tools.
- Donor reporting and budgeting: submit accurate multi-currency donor financial reports, co-design multi-year project budgets, track funding tranches and revenue recognition, and coordinate donor-initiated external audits.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field; CA/CPA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in grant administration, subgrantee management, auditing and financial compliance, or in a senior finance manager role within international non-profits, incubators or aggregator organizations across Africa.
- Proven record managing large institutional funder grants (e.g., Mastercard Foundation, Grand Challenges Canada, USAID).
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Bill.com, Expensify, grants management tools (Submittable, Fluxx) and advanced Excel.
- Strong analytical, technical writing and multi-country coordination skills; currently based in Africa with a valid work permit; able to travel within Africa.
Full-time, 12-month initial contract. Remote, open to global candidates with a preference for Africa-based candidates. Annual gross salary range $38,181 - $55,909.
