CIMMYT is a non-profit, international organization and a core CGIAR Research Center dedicated to improving the quantity, quality and dependability of production systems for maize, wheat and other basic cereals through applied agricultural science, particularly in the Global South. CIMMYT seeks a results-oriented Accounting Analyst with strong teamwork skills to join its Accounting Department in Texcoco, State of Mexico.
The Accounting Analyst will serve as a Fixed Assets Specialist, responsible for the proper accounting, control and lifecycle management of the organization's fixed assets in accordance with Mexican accounting and tax regulations and internal policies. The role ensures accurate financial information, supports monthly and year-end closings, and maintains strong internal controls over fixed assets. Experience in tax matters (VAT and fixed asset tax treatment) is desirable. The position requires close coordination with internal stakeholders across multiple locations, supporting compliance, audit readiness and continuous improvement of accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and record fixed asset transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, transfers, work in progress, capitalization and depreciation, in accordance with Mexican accounting standards (NIF) and applicable tax rules.
- Maintain the accuracy of the Fixed Assets Register, including classifications, useful lives, reconciliations and asset tracking.
- Perform and coordinate annual physical inventories of fixed assets and support asset verification and tagging.
- Support asset disposals and auctions with proper accounting and documentation.
- Execute monthly and year-end closing activities related to fixed assets, including depreciation runs, reconciliations, accruals and financial analysis.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, SAT requirements and applicable accounting and tax regulations.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing and validating fixed asset documentation and reconciliations.
- Strengthen internal controls over asset management and recommend process improvements.
- Support VAT-related accounting and fixed asset tax treatment when applicable (desirable).
- Provide support to ERP users and participate in system updates related to accounting and fixed assets.
- Support Accounts Payable activities when required, ensuring proper documentation and fiscal compliance (CFDI, tax requirements).
- Participate in improvement initiatives and projects within the Accounting function.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in fixed assets accounting.
- Desirable: experience with VAT and tax-related accounting processes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a multicultural environment.
- Intermediate English level.
- Experience with ERP systems; knowledge of Microsoft D365 is desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
