MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, working in over 40 countries. It removes landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and supports governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. MAG was a co-recipient of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Financial Analyst will provide remote finance and analytical support to the MAG Ukraine Programme from the UK. The role focuses on financial analysis, budget monitoring, forecasting, donor and management reporting, data quality and month-end support. The post holder will work closely with the Ukraine Finance team and UK colleagues to turn financial data into clear information for programme decision-making, identify variances and trends, and support timely follow-up on financial actions.
This is a fixed-term role for 6 months. The starting salary is £35,604 per annum plus a contributory pension.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain regular budget versus actual analysis for Ukraine projects, departments and cost centres, highlighting significant variances and trends.
- Support the preparation and updating of programme forecasts, and budgets for proposals or realignments.
- Assist with monthly management accounts and internal financial reporting, including commentary for managers and budget holders.
- Support donor financial reporting and grant management, including review of expenditure, coding, supporting schedules and reconciliation to approved budgets.
- Review financial data for completeness, accuracy and consistency, and raise issues with the relevant colleague.
- Develop and maintain financial analysis tools, trackers and Excel-based reports.
- Assist with project set-up, budget coding and maintenance of accurate project and donor financial records.
- Provide finance support to budget holders, and ad-hoc analysis such as scenario modelling and cost comparisons.
- Work in line with MAG financial policies, safeguarding requirements and standards of conduct.
Requirements:
- Finance, accounting, economics or business qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
- Good understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to explain financial trends and variances.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience of finance systems and data analysis tools is desirable.
- Good written and spoken English; Ukrainian language skills are strongly desirable.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with large volumes of financial information.
