Save the Children is seeking a Warehouse Manager in Sri Lanka (Nuwara Eliya) for a permanent, full-time Business Support role on a USDA-funded food for education programme. The post reports to the Senior Warehouse Manager and supervises the Warehouse Officer.
Key responsibilities:
(1) Warehouse infrastructure, systems and readiness: lead warehouse construction, rehabilitation and upgrades; maintain storage infrastructure and safety equipment; coordinate with external service providers to ensure SCI policies and commodity management best practice; conduct periodic store inspections and ensure corrective actions; keep warehouses secure, clean and fit for food storage.
(2) Commodity reception, storage and distribution: inspect incoming commodities for damage or infestation, count and record quantities, cross-check against delivery documents, supervise loading and offloading, stack commodities safely, organise stock by donor, type and shipment, prepare waybills and packing lists, and conduct field visits to storage locations.
(3) Stores management: establish SOPs, monitor stock levels and best-if-used-by dates, apply FIFO, manage pest control, handle infested stock per USDA guidelines, conduct cyclic counts, update the warehouse management software (TIM) and plan commodity-related supply requisitions.
(4) Safety and security: check locks, fire extinguishers and building maintenance, implement the SCI Warehouse Safety Guideline, and ensure 24/7 security deployment.
(5) Record keeping, reporting and staff supervision, including quarterly and annual performance reviews.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, Logistics Management or related field (Master's preferred); 3-7 years' experience managing or operating large warehouses; valid motorbike licence; fluency in English, Sinhala and Tamil; proven logistics, warehousing, stock management and commodity accounting experience; previous experience with international NGOs and donors (USDA, USAID, WFP, UNICEF) and food aid programmes; supervisory experience; computer literacy and knowledge of stock tracking software; strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.
