The Anaesthetist will ensure the provision of care to patients in the Operating Theatre and Critical Care Units, and to any other patients who require acute medical intervention at Kuajok State Hospital, Warrap State, South Sudan. They are expected to actively participate in the mentoring and training of junior anesthetists and allied health care providers, take part in the general activities of the Surgeons, and support the development of innovative improvements within the department to maintain and improve the quality of patient care. They will report to the Amref Health Africa Program Manager (Emergency Project Manager) and work with the Hospital Director, Hospital Matron, and the Surgical Team.

Key responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all anaesthetic drugs and equipment used in the theatre, maternity and other relevant hospital departments
- Conduct preoperative assessment of elective surgical patients in collaboration with the General Surgeon
- Inform patients of the proposed anaesthesia procedure, including associated risks, and obtain appropriate consent
- Manage the anaesthesia and resuscitation component of theatre services
- Perform minor procedures (surgical toilet, incision and drainage of abscesses, primary suturing of cut wounds)
- Provide on-the-job and theoretical training to surgical nurses and midwives on basic emergency services
- Assist in post-operative follow-up of patients and participate in health education sessions
- Assist the hospital matron in drug management and consumption supervision
- Provide monthly consumption reports and assist the Emergency Program Manager in preparing orders for essential medicines, consumables and equipment
- Compile monthly and quarterly service data, including theatre performance data using the standard reporting template
- Document and share human interest stories showcasing the impact of quality health services

Minimum requirements:
- Diploma (3-year) in Anaesthesia from a recognized higher institution
- At least 2 years of work experience as an anaesthetist in a busy hospital
