The Country Lead will drive the implementation of Ubongo's strategic programs and products across Ethiopia. The role is critical in identifying growth opportunities, developing market entry and expansion strategies, building strong distribution partnerships, conducting market research and intelligence, and leading brand-building and marketing initiatives to increase reach, impact and brand affinity in new and existing markets.
Responsibilities:
- Strategy implementation: working with the director of growth and the market entry and expansion manager, implement country-specific and regional expansion strategies aligned with the organization's 5-year growth plan; design and manage market entry and expansion plans across growth phases (testing, entry, growth, expansion); grow Ubongo's reach in the region; track progress and adapt workplans based on market feedback and performance metrics.
- Partnership development and relationship management: maintain strong relationships with distribution partners (traditional and non-traditional broadcasters) to distribute content; represent the organization at industry events, forums and meetings; represent Ubongo to education sector partners and government; co-lead on-the-ground efforts in collaboration with other teams.
- Marketing and brand development: provide market insights for brand development; work with marketing teams to develop campaigns that increase brand awareness, loyalty and uptake among caregivers, children, educators and other audiences; identify local influencers, media outlets and community channels.
- Cross-functional collaboration: work with content, education, research and digital teams to align expansion with product development and impact goals; coordinate with the monitoring and evaluation team to track and report reach, engagement and audience impact; support fundraising and reporting with regional insights and partner success stories.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- 5 years' related experience, e.g. education, project management, media and broadcasting, marketing and communications, business development
- Fair understanding of the media and education ecosystem in the country
- Written and oral proficiency in English and the major language(s) of the country
- Significant in-country travel, including to remote areas with minimal amenities
- Strong communication, relationship-building, planning, budgeting and financial reporting, leadership, conflict management and emotional intelligence skills
- Computer literate with basic knowledge of Google Suite and cloud storage; comfortable working remotely via Slack, Asana and Google
- A passion for children's education
