The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, part of CGIAR, delivers research-based solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity and transform food systems. Through its Climate Action work, the Alliance supports governments and partners to strengthen climate policy, mobilize and deploy climate finance, develop climate-resilient investment strategies, and improve the evidence for climate-related planning. It is seeking a motivated Climate Policy and Finance Intern to provide technical and analytical support to this portfolio. The internship offers practical exposure to climate policy, climate finance and investments, data analysis, capacity development and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the review, preparation and analysis of climate, agriculture and climate finance policies, strategies, plans and technical documents.
- Support the costing and economic assessment of strategic climate and agricultural priorities, including estimating investment requirements and financing gaps.
- Provide analytical and technical inputs to policy development processes with national governments, regional organizations, research institutions and development partners.
- Assist in designing and delivering training sessions, workshops and technical consultations with stakeholders.
- Collect, clean, organize, analyze and synthesize global, regional, national and subnational climate-related data.
- Support the development of frameworks, tools, guidelines and monitoring, learning and evaluation frameworks for climate finance project pipelines.
- Contribute to technical reports and other knowledge products such as policy briefs, technical notes, presentations and journal papers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Climate Change, Environmental Economics, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Development Studies, Natural Resource Management or a closely related discipline; a master's degree is desirable.
- Demonstrated interest in climate change, climate policy, climate finance, agricultural development or sustainable investment.
- Basic knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research and data-analysis methods.
- Strong analytical, research, writing and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.
- English required.
Terms: 3 nationally recruited positions based in Nairobi, Kenya. The initial contract is 3 months, renewable depending on performance and availability of resources. The intern works under the supervision of the Climate Action team lead and may take part in technical meetings, stakeholder consultations, workshops, training and field or country missions.
