Global Citizen is a movement of engaged citizens using their collective voice to end extreme poverty. It is seeking an experienced Content Manager to lead content strategy, planning, and production for Move Afrika during a six-month, full-time fixed-term contract. The role is based in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Content Manager will develop and execute an integrated content strategy that supports Move Afrika before, during, and after its flagship events. They will oversee editorial planning, content production, and freelance creative teams across multiple African markets, and ensure all content aligns with Global Citizen's brand, advocacy goals, and storytelling standards. They will collaborate with marketing, social, creative, video, editorial, and policy teams in Africa and the United States.
Key responsibilities:
- Content Strategy & Planning (35%): lead the year-round content strategy; develop messaging frameworks, editorial calendars, and integrated content plans across social, web, email, video, and partner channels; build a long-term content library that can be reused for future campaigns and events; maintain editorial standards and brand consistency.
- Content Production & Editorial Management (40%): lead end-to-end content production; develop content capture plans for performances, interviews, advocacy moments, and community stories; manage editorial calendars and production schedules; write, edit, and approve high-profile content; organise, tag, and archive content assets; monitor campaign performance and audience insights.
- Production & Freelancer Management (25%): recruit, brief, and manage freelance writers, photographers, videographers, and producers across Move Afrika host countries; coordinate on-the-ground production teams; develop production briefs, schedules, and deliverables; work with local production partners.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Media Studies, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 4–5 years of experience managing content production, editorial operations, digital content, or integrated marketing campaigns.
- Experience developing content strategies for live events, entertainment, music, sports, cultural, or mission-driven campaigns.
- Experience managing freelance writers, photographers, videographers, producers, or creative agencies.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with strong editorial judgment.
- Proven project management skills and experience collaborating across regions and time zones.
- Familiarity with African media, entertainment, music, and cultural landscapes is highly desirable.
Other details: must be based in Lagos and authorized to work in Nigeria; must hold a valid passport and be able to travel frequently to Move Afrika host countries; at least three hours of overlap with US-based colleagues (approximately 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM WAT). Gross pro-rated annual salary: USD $38,000-$40,000, paid monthly in Nigerian Naira.
