Planted is the autonomous power deployment company, combining planning software, high-density terrain-following solar arrays, storage, and field robots to turn power plants from bespoke construction projects into manufactured products. Backed by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Piva Capital, RA Capital, Gigascale Capital, and Google.
Planted is hiring a Growth Lead to build its business in Australia, as the first person in the market representing the company. The role reports to the Director of Growth and Strategy in California and in practice runs the Australian market. Planted is not the EPC in Australia: it supplies array layout and plant-level design support, structural balance of system, field robots, and training, while the EPC designs and procures the electrical scope, builds the project, and holds the end-customer contract. The job is to build the channel that sells projects, not only to sell them directly.
Responsibilities:
- Establish the Australian market: build and work the target list across developers, IPPs, EPCs, and mining and industrial buyers, and own every opportunity from first conversation to signed agreement.
- Build the channel, then the portfolio: find and train local EPCs, and structure pricing, scope splits, volume commitments, and machine allocation so they bring Planted their next wave of projects.
- Techno-economic case: build and defend the comparison of Planted's robot-installed high-density fixed-tilt system against legacy single-axis trackers and other high-density systems (yield, installed cost, labour hours, schedule, O&M, LCOE).
- Clear the path: identify what each deal needs on structural and civil, electrical architecture, certification, local content, and supply and logistics, and get decisions quickly.
- Represent Planted credibly in the market, work with government bodies, trade agencies and industry associations, and feed back learnings on pricing, competitors, and regulation.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years in commercial, business development, or delivery roles on Australian utility-scale solar or adjacent infrastructure, on projects that were built.
- Strong autonomy and comfort influencing a California-based team.
- An existing network of Australian developers, IPPs, EPCs, owner's engineers, or industrial and mining energy teams.
- Channel and partner selling experience.
- Hands-on techno-economic modelling, project estimating, or infrastructure deal structuring.
- Experience taking an unproven technology or delivery model to buyers with a proven alternative.
- Willingness to travel regionally, interstate, and periodically to the US.
- Right to work in Australia.
Preferred: familiarity with AS 4000 and AS 4902 contract suites, AS/NZS solar standards, off-grid or mining power experience including work with First Nations peoples and Traditional Owners, data centre or large industrial load customers, and the Capacity Investment Scheme and ARENA programs.
Salary range is AUD $200,000-$270,000 base, plus superannuation, performance incentive, and share options. Sydney preferred; Melbourne or Brisbane considered. Hybrid, full time, senior level. Planted welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
