RECOFTC, working with the Royal Forest Department under a Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded project implemented by FAO, is seeking a Socio-economic and Gender Officer for its Integrated Forest Landscape Management for Strengthening the North-Eastern and Eastern Forest Corridors (IFLMS-NE&E) project, based in Bangkok. The project covers four forest complexes along Thailand's eastern border - Phu Phan, Phanom Dongrak-Pha Tam, Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai and the eastern forest - spanning 6.5 million hectares of globally significant wildlife habitat home to the Asian elephant, Indo-Chinese tiger and Great Hornbill, under growing threat from forest degradation, land-use change and habitat encroachment. RECOFTC holds overall executing and technical responsibility for the project, with FAO providing oversight and the Royal Forest Department as lead government partner. The project aims to strengthen biodiversity conservation across the four complexes by improving forest landscape management, strengthening government policy and institutional capacity, mainstreaming biodiversity objectives into forestry, agriculture and plantation management, reducing human-wildlife conflict, and contributing to national policy on land degradation, gender equity, rural development and climate change. The Socio-economic and Gender Officer role focuses on the social inclusion and gender dimensions of this landscape conservation work. The position is offered as a 24-month contract with possibility of extension, contingent on funding availability and satisfactory performance; any offer is contingent on confirmed project funding.
