The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.
  • In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
  • have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
  • are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
  • are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
  • are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
  • are between 20 and 36 years of age.
Background Information
 
Under the overall direction of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean and Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta and Representative to the Holy See, and the direct supervision of the Head of Unit, the intern will assist with the daily activities of the Migration and Development Unit, in accordance with the IOM policy and procedures.
 
Responsibilities
 
Tasks will include:
  • Support the M&D Focal Points and the M&D Unit as requested in the areas of Diaspora Engagement, Migration Mainstreaming, private sector and circular migration;
  • Support M&D staff with contact and activity follow-up with migrants' associations; interns; local authorities; etc.
  • Support M&D staff in the collection of specific data related to the M&D activities;
  • Assist in the organization of project's events, including workshops with institutional counterparts and relevant stakeholders and training activities to migrant associations;
  • Keep track of various statistics, analytical reports and updated research relevant to M&D activities;
  • Assist with the analysis and presentation of data to enhance M&D reporting, briefings and presentations;
  • Assist with development, management and updates to other M&D visibility materials;
  • Support the M&D team in the fulfilment of administrative procedures and requirements;
  • Perform any other tasks as may be required by the supervisor.
Qualifications
 
Required Qualifications and Experience
 
Education
Be currently enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution or have graduated in the last 12 months.
 
Experience
  • Less than two years of relevant working experience;
  • experience in working with migrants, diaspora;
  • prior work experience with UN Organizations, international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
Languages
For this internship, a working knowledge of English and Italian (both oral and written) is required.
 
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
