The Specialist Editor - Asia-Pacific is responsible for executing CPJ's regional editorial strategy, including commissioning, writing, editing, and publishing stories, statements, reports, and other editorial products for CPJ's website and social media. The role is embedded within the regional program, reporting to the Regional Director, and works closely with CPJ's Research & Analysis team to ensure editorial output aligns with local priorities.

Responsibilities include commissioning, writing, editing and publishing daily content such as news alerts, statements, letters, and reports; publishing content on CPJ's website including selecting photos and captions; managing regional social media content in real time; disseminating regional content via email per the communications strategy; editing research on journalists killed, imprisoned, or attacked, ensuring accuracy; using CPJ's internal knowledge management system (Carta); maintaining internal databases; collaborating with the Regional Director and Research & Analysis team; and mentoring regional staff on editorial best practices.

Required qualifications: 3-5+ years of experience as an editor for a news agency, website, newspaper, or broadcast outlet; ability to recognize sensitive or potentially libelous issues; experience in web publishing including CMS such as WordPress; proficiency in Google Workspace; strong organizational skills; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment; experience working across time zones with international teams; applicants must have the legal right to work in the location applied to. Preferred: background in international news, experience with non-native English writers, familiarity with AP style, and proficiency in a major regional language.

Hiring is managed via an Employer of Record (EOR) firm, with compensation adjusted to local market rates in the country of hire.
