Role Overview: The Senior Researcher will contribute to the EU Industry team's work to accelerate the decarbonisation and transformation of European industry in line with climate neutrality, competitiveness and resilience. The role combines policy research and analysis, political strategy, stakeholder engagement and written communications across three initial areas: reform of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), industrial electrification, and EU funding and support instruments. The post-holder will help develop practical policy propositions, produce high-quality briefings and reports, monitor political and policy developments, and engage policymakers, civil society, business, industry, finance and other expert stakeholders.
Responsibilities: conduct research and analysis on EU industrial decarbonisation and industrial policy, initially focusing on the EU ETS, industrial electrification, and funding and investment; develop practical policy recommendations and contribute to political strategies supporting the transition of European industry; monitor relevant EU policy and political developments, stakeholder positions and emerging debates and translate these into timely analysis; produce clear, accessible briefings, reports and presentations for internal and external audiences; engage policymakers, industry, civil society and other stakeholders and contribute to projects, partnerships and coalitions across E3G's industry portfolio.
Experience and Skills: three to five years of relevant professional experience with progressively greater responsibility; a degree, professional qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant area; knowledge and practical experience in at least one relevant area such as industrial decarbonisation or industrial policy, the EU ETS or carbon pricing, industrial electrification or energy policy, or EU funding, investment and support instruments; a good understanding of EU politics, institutions and policy processes; strong research and analytical skills; the ability to produce clear written materials and communicate credibly in spoken English; experience engaging external stakeholders including policymakers and experts from government, civil society, business, industry and finance; strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Desirable: experience working in or with EU institutions or the Brussels policy community; knowledge of industrial sectors such as steel, cement or chemicals; experience supporting partnerships, coalitions or multi-organisation projects; a good working knowledge of another European language.
What we offer: permanent, full-time position; flexible and hybrid working; 25 vacation days plus additional leave between Christmas and New Year; employer pension contribution plan; yearly remuneration review. Indicative salary in Berlin is €45,990 to €47,500 annually (plus BahnCard50 travel cover); in Brussels €3,274.10 to €3,412.40 monthly with holiday pay and a 13th month, plus mobile phone, lunch and eco vouchers, hospitalisation and travel insurance and travel expense reimbursement. E3G cannot provide relocation assistance and requires candidates to demonstrate the right to live and work in the jurisdiction of employment.
