IMPACT Initiatives is a Geneva-based NGO created in 2010 and the largest independent data provider in contexts of crisis, working through its REACH, PANDA and AGORA initiatives to strengthen evidence-based humanitarian, stabilisation and development decision-making. IMPACT is looking for a Senior Research Manager to join its South Sudan team, based in Juba. Contract duration is 6 months with a high likelihood of extension, starting September 2026.
Under the line management of the IMPACT Country Representative, the Senior Research Manager (SRM) oversees the implementation of research cycles within their unit, including preparation, data collection, analysis, drafting, dissemination and evaluation. The SRM leads research and analysis staff focusing on emergencies, food security and needs analysis, as well as data and GIS colleagues, and ensures efficient and transparent use of project resources.
Responsibilities include: staff management (direct management of international and national assessment team members, recruitment, appraisals, capacity building, work plans and performance indicators, staff welfare, and membership of the Senior Management Team); management of research cycles (briefing Assessment Officers on objectives, ensuring secondary data analysis, reviewing ToRs before HQ validation, engaging stakeholders in assessment design); monitoring data collection in line with agreed ToRs and tracking progress and delays; coordinating with Operations, field management and relevant Acted departments; product drafting, dissemination and evaluation (ensuring timely, accurate reports and factsheets that meet IMPACT quality standards and are validated by HQ before external release, uploading products to data portals, and disseminating findings); strategy development, including identifying information gaps and contributing to the REACH South Sudan country strategy; and external engagement, representing REACH/IMPACT in clusters, technical working groups, the IPC, JIAF process and ICCG, and supporting fundraising and grants management. The SRM must maintain strict confidentiality over all data collected.
Requirements: Master's degree in a relevant discipline (International Relations, Political Science, Social Research, Development Studies or similar); previous senior management experience in an INGO at field level with a track record managing international and national teams in humanitarian contexts; familiarity with the aid system and research community; excellent communication and drafting skills; at least 5 years of relevant working experience (South Sudan experience an asset); experience in assessments, M&E, field research and evaluations an asset; ability to multitask under tight deadlines; self-starter able to work independently in a cross-cultural and complex security environment; fluency in English.
Compensation and benefits: monthly salary between CHF 3,660 and CHF 3,720 (before income tax) plus a monthly living allowance of USD 300; accommodation and food provided in the Acted guesthouse; private pension fund, health insurance and repatriation assistance; non-family duty station; flight tickets every 6 months and visa fees covered; R&R after 3 months in country; luggage transportation contribution; 36 days annual leave; pre-departure induction in Geneva and Paris including security training; tax advice; and enrolment in IMPACT's Research Foundational Learning Programme.
