Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (EIP) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with parties to conflict, those representing people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, European decision-makers, and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community. EIP provides practical experience, technical expertise and policy advice on conflict resolution through analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and inclusive dialogue and mediation support.
Background: The Climate and Environmental Peacemaking (CEPM) Programme aims to enhance conflict resolution in response to climate change and broader environmental challenges in conflict contexts, contributing to a sustainable environment and improving prospects for durable peace. The Environmental Peacemaking Somalia project aims to enhance dialogue and support partners through strategic research and technical assistance to strengthen environmental governance, contributing to conflict resolution and prevention. The project engages government, civil society and international partners on intergovernmental dialogue, environmental assessments, policy development and civic engagement.
Reporting to the Climate and Environmental Peacemaking Manager, the Officer will lead on project coordination and implementation.
Project coordination:
* Coordinating an international team, acting as main liaison officer.
* Providing administrative support to management and operations, including contracting, logistics and other areas.
* Monitoring budgets and expenditures, ensuring transactions are correctly recorded and submitting advice and planning as requested.
* Drafting narrative reports on time and to grant specification, including analysis of results at output and outcome levels.
* Developing communications content on the project and other climate and environmental peacemaking matters (fact sheets, training material, presentations, social media, blog posts and derivative products).
* Supporting additional ad-hoc tasks as necessary.
Project implementation:
* Contributing to the delivery of project outputs, including implementation of activities in line with the Theory of Change and results-based management approach.
* Leading on workshop and conference organisation and implementation.
* Providing backstopping support to the team in Somalia.
* Documenting progress and context monitoring, project evaluation and learning, ensuring compliance with workplans and agreements.
Skills and experience:
* Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in political science, peace and conflict studies, international cooperation, environmental or climate science, or relevant discipline.
* Minimum 3 years of relevant peace, stabilisation, environment or climate programming in fragile and conflict-affected countries.
* Minimum 3 years of experience in project coordination.
* Experience in the environmental and climate dimensions of peace and security in Somalia.
* Experience engaging with Federal and State Government of Somalia.
* Excellent understanding of dialogue and conflict resolution.
* Excellent report writing, communication, coordination and organisation skills.
* Analytical thinking, planning and problem-solving abilities.
* Strong diplomatic communication and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent command of English required; Somali an advantage.
Offer: Consultancy contract from October 2026 until May 2027. Start date: October 2026.
