Community Connector - British Red Cross
Location: Reading, Berkshire (Hybrid). Salary: £25,541 to £27,200 per annum, pro rata. Hours: 28 per week. Contract: Fixed term contract (until 23rd June 2027).
Additional requirement: Applicants must have a full licence (2 years) and access to a vehicle.
As a Community Connector, you'll work directly with individuals who feel isolated or lonely to help them build confidence, access local services, and re-engage with the world around them. You'll be part of a compassionate team that works closely with volunteers and partner organisations to create lasting social connections.
A day in the life involves: meeting with individuals to understand their needs and offer tailored support; linking people with local services, activities, and community groups; following up to review progress, identify barriers, and ensure they are accessing the support they need; working alongside volunteers to provide encouragement and practical help; building relationships with partner agencies to develop sustainable community networks; maintaining accurate records, completing case notes, and contributing to service monitoring and reporting.
What you'll need: excellent communication skills and a warm, empathetic approach; confidence working independently and as part of a team; knowledge of the local area and how communities operate; experience supporting people in a person-centred manner; strong organisational skills; confidence using Microsoft Office and digital systems; ability to handle challenging conversations with professionalism, empathy, and resilience; a genuine passion for helping people overcome loneliness and build connections.
