Location: Amman, Jordan
The UNESCO Office in Jordan works closely with national authorities to preserve and promote tangible and intangible cultural heritage, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Department of Antiquities, and the Ministry of Culture, to ensure sustainable conservation of the country's rich cultural heritage. The office promotes sustainable socio-economic development in local communities, focusing on cultural heritage preservation in As-Salt and other sites in Jordan. The Associate Project Officer (Service Contract, SC8, 6 months) assists in the regular follow-up and monitoring of ongoing rehabilitation and construction activities.
Under the general supervision of the Head of Office and direct supervision of the Culture Programme Specialist, duties include: supporting management of all project phases (planning, execution, monitoring, reporting); supporting implementation of rehabilitation and construction works including coordination and site supervision; following up with contractors to update BoQ tables and ensure quality interventions; assessing and monitoring executed works and preparing related documents and reports; conducting regular field visits for site supervision; reviewing contractors' deliverables for technical compliance; liaising with project partners, stakeholders and local authorities; drafting minutes, correspondence and official documents in English; and supporting administrative tasks including budget records and invoices.
Required: Bachelor's degree in architecture, civil or structural engineering, or related field; minimum 5 years of experience in architecture, architectural conservation, structural engineering, cultural heritage rehabilitation or related fields. Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic is mandatory. UNESCO does not charge a fee at any stage of the hiring process.
