Agora Energiewende is an international think tank pursuing secure, affordable and climate-neutral energy and industry systems worldwide by mid-century. With around 200 employees at four locations, it combines research, dialogues and public relations, working independently and free of economic or party-political interests. Agora's South Korea programme, implemented from its Berlin office in close alignment with partners in the country, focuses on evidence-based analysis, stakeholder dialogues and policy proposals to support the country's energy and industry transition toward its 2050 climate-neutrality pledge.
Responsibilities include: conducting and managing research projects on energy and industry transition in South Korea (renewable energy expansion, power system transformation, and transformation of key industry sectors such as chemicals and steel); analyzing energy and industry policies and economic trends and writing studies, commentaries and policy papers; engaging directly with energy and industrial stakeholders on system transformation and decarbonization strategies, translating their needs into evidence-based policy recommendations and advising government authorities; transferring international best practices and expertise to stakeholders in Korea and contributing to projects in other East Asian countries; working with Agora's closest partners through joint projects, skill sharing, training and peer exchange; communicating results and insights to various audiences; and supporting the development of Agora's long-term strategy in South Korea, including developing project proposals and maintaining relationships with funders and institutional partners.
Requirements: a strong desire to shape the global clean energy and industry transitions; a Master's degree in economics, engineering or similar and at least 4 years of relevant work experience with energy or industry topics (East Asia experience advantageous); a proven track record working in or with industry stakeholders on technologies/innovation, economics, industrial processes, energy systems or decarbonization pathways; familiarity with South Korea's energy and industrial policy landscape is a plus; experience working in international teams; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and working fluency in English, with Korean, German or other languages a plus. The position is full or part-time (minimum 32 hours) with a contract initially limited to two years, based in Berlin, Brussels or Bangkok with frequent travel to South Korea and other Asian countries.
