Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organization that provides assistance in more than 70 countries to populations in distress, victims of natural or manmade disasters and victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination. The Deputy Medical Operations Coordinator belongs to the Operations Department (Operational Centre Brussels/OCB) and is responsible, together with the Operations Coordinator, for the medical vision, strategy and operational coherence of the programmes under their cell portfolio. The role requires strong capacity to support complex medical-operational environments, including medical strategy, quality of care, security-sensitive programming, access constraints, advocacy, outbreak response and strategic decision-making with country teams, cell members and headquarters. The Brussels-based cell portfolio will mainly include Central Africa contexts (DRC, CAR, Burundi) and Sierra Leone, with a transition period involving a mixed West Africa/Sahel and Central Africa portfolio. Main responsibilities: develop strategic and medical vision for each country with the Head of Programmes and Medical Coordinators; ensure medical pertinence and quality of projects; take co-decisions on operations with the Operations Coordinator; coach and mentor Medical Coordinators; ensure cost-awareness on medical choices; promote medical advocacy and an Operational Research agenda; and support portfolio handover during transition. Requirements: medical degree (Medicine or nursing); minimum 7 years international experience in different operational contexts with MSF; minimum 5 years as Medical Coordinator/Emergency Coordinator with MSF; degree in tropical medicine, public health or epidemiology an asset. Excellent analytical and strategic vision, leadership, negotiation and intercultural awareness required. Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
