IDinsight is a global nonprofit that equips leaders with the data, evidence, and technology to improve lives at scale, partnering with governments, NGOs, multilaterals, and funders across Asia and Africa. The Associate Director/Director – East and Southern Africa will report to the Regional Director and help drive major parts of IDinsight's work and strategy in the Region, supported by research, operations, and communications teams. The role carries significant autonomy alongside accountability for clear self-set goals. Key responsibilities: develop and lead high-impact opportunities (conceptualise, secure, fundraise for, and execute initiatives that use data and evidence to drive change); lead, mentor, and guide project teams (usually 3-5 Managers, 10-15 members total), liaising with senior clients and ensuring research quality, ethics, and budgets; act as a thought leader, trusted advisor, and advocate for data-driven reforms (writing, speaking, and advising senior leaders in governments, foundations, and non-profits); contribute to IDinsight's regional and global strategy; support organisational development including recruitment, onboarding, and performance reviews; and exemplify IDinsight's mission and values. Qualifications: deep passion for development and social impact; a record of building strong stakeholder and client relationships with governments, foundations, and non-profits; impactful thought leadership; fluency with data and evidence tools (impact evaluations, surveys, monitoring systems, machine learning); inspiring leadership in a multicultural environment; 10+ years' experience using data and evidence to improve social impact; and an advanced degree (Master's or Doctoral), preferably in public policy, economics, public administration, international development, business, or public health. The position is based in the Nairobi office (hybrid, not eligible for remote work), full-time, starting October 2026 with a two-year minimum commitment. Compensation and benefits are competitive within the global development sector and include comprehensive international health insurance, mental health coverage, paid leave, relocation benefits, and a professional development budget. This position will likely include a good amount of domestic and international travel. IDinsight will prioritise candidates who have work authorisation.
