Cultural Survival is an Indigenous-led NGO and U.S.-registered nonprofit advocating for Indigenous Peoples' rights since 1972, working with communities across 70+ countries and guided by UNDRIP. This is a full-time (35 hrs/week) remote role, filled by a candidate legally authorized to work in the United States and residing within the Eastern or Central U.S. time zones, with up to 10% travel (fully covered) to Cultural Survival events. The Accountant maintains the organization's financial integrity, ensuring compliance with GAAP, internal controls, donor requirements, and grant agreements. Responsibilities: oversee accounting operations (accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, bank transfers); ensure accurate GAAP-compliant record-keeping; manage payroll and labor-law compliance; reconcile accounts monthly; handle grants and donations tracking/allocation/reporting; disburse funds to vendors and field staff outside the USA; prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; assist with budget development and financial planning; facilitate the annual audit and tax filings including IRS Form 990; develop and enforce internal controls; support HR on employee benefits administration; mentor staff on financial processes; and serve as on-site finance lead during periodic Bazaar events (cashier operations, vendor payouts, cash reconciliation). Qualifications: bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or equivalent; 3+ years progressive accounting experience with demonstrated nonprofit accounting; fluency in English and Spanish required (Indigenous language desirable); familiarity with grant compliance; proficiency in accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred); CPA valuable but not required. Salary: $60,000-$75,000 USD annually plus competitive benefits.
