The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a talented Communications Assistant to support our Australia research team in producing high-quality, engaging and interactive content.

The Communications Assistant, Australia is a versatile all-rounder who supports IEEFA Australia's communications function across digital, social and stakeholder channels. The role owns the day-to-day running of social media, electronic newsletters (EDMs) and the contacts database, supports media monitoring and outreach, and provides hands-on production support while developing a grounding in PR and communications practices over time.

This role is central to IEEFA Australia's shift toward more responsive, well-targeted engagement, and to closing long-standing gaps in social media and audience management. The Communications Assistant will have strong attention to detail, good writing skills and a drive to support IEEFA's evidence-based research. A proactive, organised approach; a flexible outlook in the face of shifting priorities and deadlines; and a 'can do' attitude are vital to help increase the impact and timeliness of our work.

IEEFA is an NGO/not-for-profit that conducts research and analysis on financial and economic issues related to energy markets, trends, and policies. Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a team of 70+ analysts and communications personnel located in 16 countries across the globe.

Responsibilities

Social Media and Digital Channels
* Own the day-to-day management of IEEFA Australia's social media channels (scheduling, publishing and engaging) while working from analysts' research and the team's key messages
* In collaboration with the Communications team, develop best-practice social copy that translates complex, technical research for target audiences, in IEEFA's neutral, evidence-based voice
* Support responsive activity by preparing and publishing assets when topics are live in the news cycle
* Develop and distribute IEEFA Australia's stakeholder newsletters/EDMs, including layout and sourcing or creating supporting images
* Support analysts with posting to their own social media channels, ensuring they have the confidence and skills to share their research on LinkedIn

Stakeholder Database and Outreach
* Own, maintain and improve IEEFA Australia's contacts database/distribution lists, documenting processes so the function does not rely on individual knowledge
* Maintain and grow a comprehensive stakeholder list in the CRM that can be leveraged for mail-outs and engagement, connected to the global HubSpot CRM and outreach-tracking system
* Support targeted stakeholder outreach and engagement campaigns around report launches

Media Support and Monitoring
* Monitor IEEFA Australia's media coverage and relevant energy and finance news, flagging trends and opportunities to the Media & Engagement Manager
* Track media hits and engagement metrics and maintain inputs to the communications dashboard and regular reporting
* Support media activity like helping prepare media releases, fact sheets and briefing materials

Production, Systems, and Delivery
* Provide general communications and production support across the team, including updating project status in ClickUp and maintaining good documentation and archiving 'housekeeping' for ongoing and completed work
* Contribute to global and regional communications team initiatives and projects as required
* Manage time and priorities effectively across competing demands, proactively raising issues along the way
* Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
* 1-4 years' experience in a communications, social media, marketing or media role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as communications, marketing, journalism, or public relations
* Good writing and copywriting skills and strong attention to detail, with the ability to adapt and distill complex material for social media and newsletters
* An interest and willingness to learn and develop the PR and communications craft
* Organised and able to manage time and priorities effectively across competing demands, with a proactive approach to problem-solving
* An ability to identify opportunities to improve operational processes and a willingness to drive improvements
* Able to work remotely while liaising with analysts and the communications team locally and globally using online file-sharing and video-conferencing platforms (e.g. Slack, Box, G-Suite, ClickUp)
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office; familiarity with design or digital publishing tools is advantageous
* Commitment to IEEFA's mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable energy economy
* Permanent working rights in Australia

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in finance, energy or a related field, or working for a technical not-for-profit organisation
* Experience of administering social media channels, with an understanding of audience engagement
* Experience with, or aptitude for, CRM/database management and email marketing tools (e.g. HubSpot)

Compensation and Benefits
Full-time employment contract with remuneration AU$74,568 - 89,988 base, plus super. Our competitive benefits package includes Annual Leave, Personal/Carer's Leave, Long Service Leave, Paid Parental Leave, a Professional Development Allowance, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a home office set-up stipend, a co-working space stipend, a monthly mobile phone allowance, and technology equipment provided.

Work Schedule
Full-time, 38 hours/week, with occasional evening or weekend work as required.

Location and Travel
The Communications Specialist will work remotely and may be based anywhere in Australia. Some travel is required. Attendance is required at occasional global IEEFA conference and team retreat. In-person team meetings are held 2-4 times a year, usually in Melbourne.
