ABOUT RAZOM
Razom ("Together" in Ukrainian) is a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to helping build a secure, democratic, and prosperous Ukraine. Razom Advocacy is a branch of Razom for Ukraine committed to advancing legislation and policy for Ukrainian victory through direct engagement with policymakers, through work with journalists and the press, and through partnering with constituents and community leaders.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE
Razom for Ukraine is searching for a high-agency, senior manager to serve as Deputy Director of Advocacy and help lead a fast-moving advocacy program working to advance support for Ukraine in Washington and across the United States.

The Deputy Director of Advocacy helps translate organizational priorities into effective execution across congressional advocacy, public engagement, external representation, and internal operations. The role plays a key leadership function within the Advocacy team, including helping manage personnel, oversee major workstreams, improve systems and workflows, shape team strategy, and ensure high-impact initiatives are executed effectively and responsibly.

The ideal candidate is an experienced advocacy and political operator with strong managerial instincts, sound political judgment, exceptional writing and organizational skills, and the ability to build structure and accountability without sacrificing agility or mission focus. The Deputy Director reports to the Advocacy Director and works closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Independently supervise workflows; provide guidance, feedback, and accountability on task execution; assign responsibilities and redirect staff work as necessary; intervene in operational matters; and recommend appropriate personnel actions to the Director.
  • In the absence of the Director, exercise designated authority to make key programming and tactical decisions.
  • Independently oversee and manage the production of high-quality written materials in support of the Advocacy team's work, including briefing memos, one-pagers, white papers, external correspondence, talking points, and strategic documents.
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Advocacy to strategically manage and develop Advocacy team personnel, including performance management, accountability, coaching, professional development, hiring, onboarding, and staff reviews.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic advocacy goals, campaigns, and institutional priorities by assessing where Razom can deliver the greatest impact in support of Ukraine.
  • Help institute tools, technologies, automations, and operational processes that improve efficiency, communication, tracking, and collaboration across the Advocacy team and broader organization.
  • Align Advocacy Team's engagement with broader organizational stakeholders, including leadership, the board, and other functional teams.
  • Advise the Director of Advocacy on operational planning, resource allocation, staffing assignments, and implementation decisions across the Advocacy team's portfolio of work.
  • Represent the organization, step in as Acting Advocacy Director (especially during the Director's absence) across a range of external engagements, including congressional meetings, coalition convenings, public events, conferences, donor engagements, media appearances, and other strategic forums.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgment and make operational decisions in high-pressure or rapidly evolving environments within established strategic guidance.
  • Background managing complex projects and competing priorities across multiple workstreams in fast-moving environments. Strong organizational and operational judgment and ability to drive workstreams from conceptualization through after-action.
  • Significant experience managing personnel and teams, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, staff development, and employee separation processes, preferably in environments involving supervision of multiple direct reports and complex team coordination.
  • Track record of developing, implementing, and operationalizing organizational policies, procedures, and internal systems across teams and workflows.
  • Familiarity with publicly representing organizations in high-profile or politically sensitive environments, including with media, external stakeholders, coalition partners, policymakers, and public audiences.
  • Experience managing programmatic budgets, operational expenditures, and ongoing spending pipelines in complex or fast-moving organizational environments.
  • Significant knowledge of Congress, the Executive Branch, and the federal policymaking process, including familiarity with congressional procedure, legislative strategy, and political dynamics on Capitol Hill. Commitment to operating effectively in a bipartisan manner, across distinct ideological, political, geographic, and cultural environments.
  • Exceptional organizational and logistical management skills, proven ability to plan and execute complex events, delegations, advocacy activations, or high-profile external engagements involving multiple stakeholders and moving parts.
  • Exceptional English-language writing, editing, and editorial judgment skills, with the ability to produce polished, persuasive, and strategically effective written materials under tight deadlines.
  • Professional fluency or working proficiency in Ukrainian is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Commitment to Advocacy Team values of solidarity, subsidiarity, integrity, agility, and daring.
