About the Role
The Tax Reform Implementation Adviser will support the Department of Finance in delivering and administering tax reforms under the National Sustainable Development Strategy 2005–2025. This advisory role has a strong focus on training, mentoring, and building the capability of the NRO Tax Division.
Working across all NRO functions, the Adviser will provide strategic and technical support on taxation matters, including advice to the Secretary and Minister for Finance. Key responsibilities include assisting with ongoing tax reform implementation, developing and delivering a Compliance Improvement Plan, strengthening staff capability through targeted initiatives, and reviewing and enhancing tax processes and procedures for filing, payment, and assessment.
The role also plays an important part in promoting taxpayer compliance, improving monitoring practices, and building public confidence in the tax system. As part of the Nauru Australia Economic Governance Program, the Adviser will contribute to broader economic development outcomes aligned with the NSDS, with opportunities to engage in tax policy reform discussions supporting the national budget.

About You
This role requires a tertiary-qualified professional in taxation, accounting, finance, business management, or a related discipline, with extensive experience in tax administration or revenue environments. Strong technical knowledge of tax systems, processes, and policies, along with the ability to analyse complex issues and support tax reform implementation, is essential.
The role also requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, cultural awareness, and experience working in resource-constrained settings. An understanding of cross-cutting issues, including gender, anti-corruption, and disability inclusion, is important.
