Background of project
Since 2022, WWF-Myanmar has been implementing conservation and community-based natural resource management initiatives in the Ayeyarwady Delta Sub-Landscape through Mangrove Friendly Aquaculture (MFA) practices. MFA is one of the Nature-based Solution (NbS) that helps in communities’ livelihood by doing mud-crab aquaculture in the mangrove ecosystem but also as climate change mitigation measures.
Over the past years, WWF-Myanmar, in collaboration with local stakeholders, has supported mangrove restoration and protection activities. To ensure a strategic, coordinated, and evidence-based approach moving forward, we intends to develop a Landscape-Level Mangrove Restoration and Protection Action Plan. This assignment will also focus on development of landscape level mangrove restoration and protection action plan for the targeted area and capacitating the Local Governance Committee and relevant stakeholders with the necessary technical knowledge and practical skills to effectively implement the action plan.
Objective of the consultancy
The main objective of this consultancy is to develop a comprehensive landscape-level mangrove restoration and protection action plan for the targeted area in Ayeyarwady Delta, and to strengthen the capacity of the multi-sectoral Local Governance Committee and relevant stakeholders on mangrove restoration, protection, and sustainable management practices.
Scope of work includes 1) Inception Phase, 2) Situation Analysis, 3) Action Plan Development, 4) Capacity Building, 5) Stakeholder Collaboration and 6) Finalization & validation.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Coastal Ecology, or related fields.
- Proven experience in mangrove restoration, coastal ecosystem management, or landscape-level planning.
- Prefer prior knowledge and experience of working at the targeted area.
- Experience in developing strategic or action plans.
- Strong understanding of conservation, climate resilience, and community-based natural resource management.
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a must and Myanmar language is highly desirable.
- Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel to remote field locations.
