Background

The Climate Action Network (CAN) is a global network of over 2,000 civil society organizations
in over 130 countries driving collective and sustainable action to fight the climate crisis and to
achieve social justice. CAN convenes and coordinates civil society at the UN climate talks and
other international fora.
As part of the Platform of Action for Renewable Energy, CAN International Secretariat produces
an annual report on Renewable Energy, in support of its advocacy activities to promote a just
and equitable transition to 100% renewable energy systems.
CAN International seeks a consultant to help collect information about large-scale renewable
energy projects and their impacts on local communities in the Global South (Africa, Latin
America, Asia).

Key Responsibilities

Identifying and selecting 15 projects of interests from a database of projects under the guidance of the Renewable Energy Coordinator.
Identifying and liaising with members of local communities and organizations, potentially with the support and coordination of CAN national and local members, through emails and other channels.
Collecting qualitative and quantitative information about the deployment of large-scale RE projects through surveys and interviews.
Preparing and translating surveys and questionnaires into target languages
Synthesizing data and information to facilitate integration into the annual report.
Deliverables

For each project, a summary of insights and detailed information collected.
A document synthesizing data and information across the projects, to facilitate integration into the annual report
Logistics & conditions

Remote
Duration: 8 weeks
Working hours: 25 hours per week. Flexible arrangements possible.
Compensation: €3000 for the entire period
Expected start date: 18 May 2026
Reporting to: Head of Global Political Strategy Department. The Renewable Energy Coordinator will serve as CAN's Liaison.
Requirements

Degree in environmental studies, energy policy, social sciences, sustainability, climate justice or a related field.
Ability to liaise with local stakeholders and to conduct outreach through email, messaging platforms and online calls.
Experience collecting qualitative data through interviews, surveys, or stakeholder consultations.
Fluency in English is mandatory. Any other language would be a strong asset for the purposes of the research (e.g. Spanish, Arabic).
Familiarity with renewable energy projects and community engagement in the energy transition is an asset
Proficient in Google Suite/Drive.
