The position
Northern Pakistan Energy Limited (NPAK Energy), a subsidiary of Industrial Promotion Service (IPS) of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), operates based on a 30-year Concession Agreement signed with the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). Responding to the GB government’s request, NPAK Energy will develop the energy system to supply clean, reliable, and affordable electricity for all of Hunza as well as demonstrate the applicability and relevance of a regionally proven model for the operation of an integrated utility company in Pakistan.
The Electrical Engineer – Hydropower Projects will support the implementation of the Energy Plus Project co-financed by the European Union and NPAK Energy and will be responsible for electrical engineering activities under the project, particularly, the components related to hydropower development.
Key Responsibilities
* Review electrical designs, drawings, SLDs, technical specifications, BOQs, and equipment submittals.
* Supervise electrical installation and rehabilitation works at hydropower project sites.
* Review generators, transformers, switchgear, protection, control, automation, and auxiliary systems.
* Monitor electrical construction quality and compliance with approved designs and IEC standards.
* Coordinate with contractors, consultants, suppliers, and other engineering teams.
* Supervise electrical testing, commissioning, and project handover.
The requirements
Required Qualifications and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
* Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in hydropower or power generation projects.
* Practical experience in electrical design review, construction supervision, equipment installation, testing, and commissioning.
* Knowledge of generators, transformers, MV/HV systems, protection relays, and control systems.
* Experience in hydropower plant rehabilitation and modernization will be an advantage.
Required Skills
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
* Good knowledge of IEC standards and electrical safety requirements.
* Strong technical, analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
* Ability to work at remote project sites and in challenging mountainous conditions.
