CONTEXT
MSF has been working in Brazil since 1991, responding to medica and humanitarian needs alongside health authorities, civil society organizations and affected communities. Over the years, activities have addressed a wide range of health challenges, with a particular focus on populations facing barriers to healthcare.
Until 2025, MSF operated two main projects in the country: the Yanomami project, focused on Indigenous health in the Brazilian Amazon, and the Marajó project, aimed at supporting survivors of sexual violence. Following the closure of these interventions, MSF launched a new three-year project in Rio de Janeiro in 2026 focused on tuberculosis (TB) in the prison system.

The Rio TB Prison project aims to improve TB prevention, early detection and access to quality care among people deprived of liberty, a population disproportionately affected by the disease. Through operational research, innovation and collaboration with the public health system, the project also seeks to generate evidence that can contribute to strengthening TB control strategies beyond the prison setting.

The project office is based in Barra da Tijuca, which, although administratively part of Rio de Janeiro, is located approximately an hour and a half from the city center. Its location is strategic, as it is equidistant from the prison facilities where we operate.

As Project Medical Coordinator (PMC), you will be responsible for the overall design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of medical activities within a project focused on TB package of care in PDLs in Rio de Janeiro State. This role requires to be able to gain a strong understanding of Brazil’s health system, knowledge of TB diagnosis and treatment protocols, and significant experience working in humanitarian and/or complex settings with MSF.
