Agrologistics, Cold Chain and Market Activitation Advisor- FRESHWAY Project
SNV is a global development partner working in more than 20 countries in Africa and Asia to strengthen agri-food, energy and water systems. FRESHWAY is a four-year project strengthening Ethiopia's fruit and vegetable agrologistics system along the Arba Minch-Hawassa-Addis Ababa-Mojo corridor, reducing postharvest losses, improving food safety, and attracting private investment in cold chain infrastructure, aggregation and market linkages.
The Agrologistics, Cold Chain and Market Activation Advisor provides technical leadership and practical support to improve the efficiency, quality and market responsiveness of horticultural supply chains, with two areas of responsibility: (i) agrologistics, cold-chain and aggregation solutions; and (ii) market activation and consumer demand creation for safe, certified fruit and vegetables, including products meeting Ethio GAP requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct or coordinate feasibility and scoping studies in priority locations (Arba Minch, Wolaita Sodo, Butajira, Hawassa, Batu, Adama) and analyse production volumes, seasonality, market access, logistics and bottlenecks.
- Review existing aggregation models and support the establishment of regional aggregation hubs with logistics linkages to the Modjo Cool Port and buyers in Addis Ababa.
- Provide technical inputs to FRESHWAY short courses on horticultural logistics, cold-chain management and postharvest handling.
- Identify Dutch companies with logistics innovations adaptable to Ethiopian companies.
- Organise learning visits, buyer-seller meetings, and demonstrations on grading, packaging and postharvest handling; support joint production and delivery planning.
- Engage marketing companies and media, oversee consumer awareness studies, and coordinate promotional campaigns on the benefits of certified fruit and vegetables.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in supply chain or logistics management, agribusiness, agriculture, horticulture, or value-chain development.
- At least five years of relevant experience with a master's degree, or seven years with a bachelor's degree.
- Demonstrated experience supporting value-chain or market-systems development projects.
- Knowledge of supply-chain planning, cold-chain management, aggregation, grading, packaging and quality standards; strong knowledge of horticultural value chains.
- Strong stakeholder coordination, facilitation, communication and analytical skills; good spoken and written English.
National contract of one year, with possible extension. Expected start date: January 1, 2027. Duty station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
