New Roots Institute is a growing nonprofit dedicated to ending factory farming by empowering the next generation of advocates. Its fellowship programs train students to lead real-world campaigns that create structural and behavioral change in their communities.

They are the public face of the organization and its lead relationship-builder with donors, the board, and the broader movement. They also act as thought partner and supervisor to the Managing Director, who is accountable for org-level strategy and culture. New Roots uses a distributed decision-making model, so this role suits a leader who influences through conversation rather than direct decision-making authority.

- Represent New Roots at major conferences, industry events and coalition spaces.
- Be the primary landing point for incoming partner referrals and maintain lasting relationships across the ecosystem, including with fellows and alumni.
- Serve as lead fundraiser with sole accountability for securing six- and seven-figure gifts, supporting a $4M+ annual operation.
- Partner with the development team on revenue forecasting, prospect tracking and funder stewardship systems.
- Act as a strategic thought partner to the Managing Director and senior management.
- Guide the organization through turnover and transitions, manage legal matters and outside counsel, and fill gaps beyond your core specialty.
- Cultivate relationships with individual board members and own the cadence and quality of board meetings.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated expertise in youth leadership development.
- Deep fluency in the movement to end factory farming, its interventions and funding landscape, and familiarity with effective altruism.
- Executive accountability and strategic credibility across the sector.
- Experience shaping organizational culture and making courageous decisions.
- Strong public speaking and online thought leadership.
- Proven philanthropic leadership, cultivating and stewarding high-value donors and funders.
- Ability to travel one to two times per month or more, and to work unconventional hours around events.
- Shared vegan and anti-speciesist values.
- Attendance at the annual in-person team meeting, typically in the first full week of June.
Compensation: full-time, remote position at $116,500 per year for both the Associate and Executive Director roles, plus health, dental and vision insurance and unlimited PTO.
