The Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat (ReDSS) is a coalition of 14 NGOs working to find durable solutions for displacement in East Africa. Hosted by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and based in Nairobi, with country units in Somalia and Ethiopia, ReDSS is an interagency coordination and information hub focused on research and knowledge management, program support, capacity development, learning and policy influencing.
Overall purpose of the role: The ReDSS Kenya Policy Coordinator will implement the advocacy and policy strategy at national and local levels, working with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure sustainable solutions for refugees and host communities in Kenya. The postholder will work with the Kenya Manager to support the development of ReDSS' work in Kenya, including representing ReDSS members in relevant forums and coordination platforms.
Key responsibilities:
- Advocacy and policy influencing: implement and monitor ReDSS Kenya advocacy strategies at national and county levels; monitor and analyse legislation and policy changes and advise ReDSS members and partners; build strategic relationships with government, development, humanitarian and civil society stakeholders; turn evidence and learning into clear advocacy positions and policy recommendations.
- Capacity strengthening and learning: strengthen the capacities of local authorities and humanitarian and development actors to develop integrated approaches for displaced and host communities; support cross-learning and peer exchanges between authorities in displacement-affected counties, particularly Garissa, Turkana and Nairobi; support partnerships with local networks and organisations; ensure ReDSS research has maximum impact on policy and programming.
- Refugee leadership and accountability to communities: lead engagement with refugee-led organisations and refugee leadership so that the voices, needs and rights of displacement-affected communities are prioritised in policy processes; implement the ReDSS accountability framework; analyse community feedback and report trends.
- Support development of the ReDSS Kenya unit: support the Kenya Manager in developing, implementing and monitoring the operational plan, reporting and adaptive planning, and project coordination with partners.
Requirements: University degree in law, political science or international relations (a Master's in a related field is an advantage); minimum 5 years of experience in policy coordination, evidence building and analysis; strong knowledge of the socio-economic and political dynamics of the region, especially displacement trends; experience working with national and international partners in multi-stakeholder initiatives; solid experience in capacity development (adult learning, mentoring, coaching, training of trainers); excellent coordination, communication, analytical and writing skills, including producing policy briefs; good IT skills.
Contract: One-year contract with possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance. Duty station: Nairobi. Availability: November 2026. Reports to the ReDSS Kenya Manager.
