Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world's leading humanitarian NGOs, is looking for a qualified Finance Assistant for its operations in Humera, Ethiopia. Under the supervision of the Support Service Team Leader, the Finance Assistant provides financial and administrative support to DRC operations and partners in accordance with DRC financial procedures, donor regulations and national legislation, ensuring accurate financial recordkeeping, cash management, payment processing, reporting and compliance.
Key responsibilities:
- Finance and accounting: perform daily bookkeeping per the DRC Finance Handbook; record transactions accurately in DRC Dynamics; post to the correct project, budget line and ledger; prepare payment, receipt and journal vouchers with supporting documentation; maintain electronic and physical financial records; support month-end and year-end closing.
- Cash and bank management: manage petty cash and replenishments; conduct daily and monthly cash counts; safeguard office cash; handle cash receipts, disbursements and advances; process approved bank transfers; liaise with banks; monitor cash balances.
- Payment processing: process approved supplier, staff, statutory and partner payments accurately and on time; support salary processing; assist in remitting taxes and pension; ensure timely payment of operational expenses.
- Reporting: prepare monthly cash count reports; support financial reports; collect, review and file partners' financial reports; support reconciliation of cash, bank and ledger balances.
- Compliance: ensure compliance with DRC policies, donor regulations and local legislation; maintain audit trails and archived documents; follow internal controls.
Requirements: BA degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or a related field; minimum 1-2 years of relevant finance or accounting experience; NGO or humanitarian experience an advantage; experience with bookkeeping, cash management, payment processing and ERP systems (preferably Microsoft Dynamics); advanced Microsoft Excel; strong organizational, analytical and communication skills; excellent English.
Contract: 12 months, National Contract, Band I2 (non-management), starting 1 November 2026. Only qualified local Ethiopian nationals are encouraged to apply. Women candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
