UK Director
Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe's leading clean transport think tank and campaign group, is looking for a UK Director to lead its UK Office in London (Farringdon). The role will continue to build T&E UK's policy and media profile as one of the leading expert groups on transport and energy in the UK and the EU, taking T&E UK to the next level of political influence.
Purpose of the role: Lead T&E's national office in London and work with members, industry and other allies to decarbonise the UK transport sector by accelerating the shift to zero emission transport solutions. A key priority is building stronger alliances between policy experts, policymakers, progressive industries and the environmental sector.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Represent T&E at the highest political level and across media channels (print, digital, radio, TV).
- Inspire, motivate and grow the T&E UK team using an inclusive leadership style.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of UK public policy and the regulatory process, with a focus on regulations that accelerate the shift to zero emission mobility.
- Manage the UK office, including operational, financial and HR responsibilities, and be part of T&E's management team.
- Coordinate with members, NGO and business partners in the UK and identify new allies.
- Develop and deliver T&E's national strategy and long-term vision on transport decarbonisation.
- Build and maintain contact with policymakers, NGOs, industry, funders, media and other stakeholders, with a focus on strong coalitions.
- Use LinkedIn as an advocacy channel and become a leading voice on T&E's topics.
- Lead and contribute to T&E's fundraising efforts globally and in the UK, with a focus on growing UK funding.
Requirements:
- Ten years of relevant experience in transport or advocacy (ideally both).
- An experienced leader with a track record of leading and developing externally focused teams, using an effective coaching and management style.
- Proven ability to cultivate contacts across the democratic political spectrum and build lasting alliances; strong existing network.
- Deep understanding of the UK and ideally the EU political system, and expertise in regulations with capacity for political analysis.
- Experience developing strategies to create change in a complex and at times conservative sector.
- Capacity to prioritise among competing issues and deliver on regulatory, management and operational tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate complex issues to different audiences.
The position is primarily based in London, with some travel to key EU capitals, mostly Brussels. Full-time, permanent contract with a competitive salary.
