Payment and Accounting Officer
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
The Pooled Fund on International Energy (PIE) is a multi-regional philanthropic platform working to accelerate the transition to clean energy, electrification, and low-carbon industry, hosted by the European Climate Foundation (ECF). The Payment and Accounting Officer will work under PIE's Finance Team, directly supervised by the Head of Finance, managing day-to-day payment processing, accounts payable administration, reconciliations, and routine accounting tasks. Key responsibilities include: checking invoices for accuracy and processing them in the accounting system, preparing and processing payment batches including approved grant payments, monitoring payment status, reviewing and processing expense claims, recording routine financial transactions, assisting with bank, supplier and advance reconciliations, flagging discrepancies for review, supporting procurement and supplier documentation, assisting with onboarding on finance procedures, and supporting month-end activities and audits. Requirements: a degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration; a recognised professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CPA or equivalent); 3+ years of relevant professional experience in Accounts Payable and/or Payment management; experience with accounting software and expense management tools; high attention to detail; strong problem-solving skills; ability to work independently across multiple tasks; strong communication skills in remote, multicultural environments; excellent written and verbal English; must be able to work within +/-2 hours of GMT+1. Location: South Africa preferred, or other locations within +/-2hrs of GMT+1. Initial 12-month contract with possibility of extension.
