Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States, working in more than 100 countries. CRS has operated in El Salvador for over 70 years. The Proyecto de Agua Segura, promoted through the Nunciatura Apostólica de El Salvador and run by CRS, aims to strengthen more than 48 rural community drinking-water systems and benefit about 9,600 families without safe water. It also aims to build the capacity of water boards (juntas de agua), community leaders and system operators.
El/La Oficial de Campo de Agua Potable y Saneamiento will identify technical needs in water supply systems. The officer will also provide operational and community support for the project. It reports to the Project Coordination and has no supervisory responsibilities.
Main responsibilities:
- Coordinate with local actors and schedule technical visits to communities and parishes.
- Run field diagnostics of rural water systems: sources, infrastructure, operating conditions and water quality, including laboratory analyses under RTS 13.02.01:14 and feasibility studies.
- Prepare technical data sheets with estimated budgets to define interventions.
- Promote community dialogue and project outreach with communities and water boards.
- Support and verify on site the technical interventions carried out by providers, and receive community works on behalf of CRS.
- Train water boards and operators on chlorination, basic operation and maintenance, and promote hygiene and safe water use.
- Prepare field reports and collect evidence (photos, attendance lists, logbooks).
Requirements:
- Technical or engineering degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Water Resources or a related field. Additional training in drinking water, sanitation, environmental health or WASH is a plus.
- At least 2 years of experience in drinking water, sanitation or community development projects, including field work in rural communities.
- Basic knowledge of rural water supply systems, water quality and disinfection (chlorination).
- Basic proficiency with Excel, Word and digital or mobile data-collection tools.
- Valid driver's licence and experience driving a 4x4 vehicle on rural terrain (required).
- Willingness to travel about 75% within the country.
- Commitment to CRS's mission, values and Catholic social teaching.
