E3G is an independent climate think tank working globally to achieve a safe climate for all. Its Clean Economy theme aims to create the political conditions for accelerated industrial transition, manage trade tensions and make new industrial and trade partnerships possible, with a widening focus on geo-economics and clean tech supply chains.
This is a 12-month maternity cover appointment (from December 2026) carrying the full accountability of the Associate Director role: strategic direction, funding, people and impact of the Clean Economy theme. The postholder sits in E3G's Senior Management Team and will shape and build the team, including new hires and the theme's Asia capability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategic direction of the Clean Economy theme on industrial transition and trade.
- Work with climate diplomacy, geopolitics and political economy colleagues to develop E3G's offer in geo-economics and clean tech supply chains across European, international and Asia arenas.
- Represent E3G externally with economic, industry and trade ministries, international initiatives, private sector coalitions and multilateral venues.
- Build senior funder relationships, lead funding strategy and hold accountability for delivery.
- Lead programme leaders and senior advisors across the EU Industry, Global Industry and Trade & Investment teams.
- Lead the team through recruitment and change, and hand the theme over well at the end of the cover period.
- Contribute to organisational leadership as a member of the Senior Management Team.
Requirements:
- Significant experience in industrial transition, trade, industrial policy or economic security, in think tank, policy, institutional, government or related settings.
- Track record of intellectual leadership and delivery at scale.
- Strategic, facilitative and lateral leadership; experience leading senior leaders.
- Strong external profile and senior funder and partner relationships.
- Experience taking an emerging area from strategic intent to a scoped, funded and staffed programme.
Offer: 12-month fixed-term, full-time contract; 35-hour week; hybrid working; 25 vacation days plus leave between Christmas and New Year; additional pension contribution. Indicative salary: London £80,075-£85,000; Brussels €6,423.20-€6,824.70 monthly; Berlin €85,439-€93,000. Candidates must have the right to live and work in the employing jurisdiction; no relocation assistance.
