The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Senior Audit Manager, Banking within the Internal Audit unit. This role is offered as a three-year fixed-term contract, based in Basel, Switzerland; as an international organization BIS can hire globally, welcoming applications from candidates of all nationalities located anywhere in the world, with relocation support available.
Purpose: provide high-quality audit and advisory services to Senior Management and the Audit Committee, ensuring relevant risks are identified and mitigating processes/controls are robust, efficient, and aligned with the Bank's objectives, delivered per the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).
Principal accountabilities: plan, lead, and execute risk-based internal audits for Banking activities including Treasury, Asset Management, and trading-related functions, covering front-, middle-, and back-office operations; assess trading and institutional client activities (fixed income, FX, derivatives, commodities, private assets, structured products, hedging strategies); perform detailed reviews of trading books and risk management frameworks (market, credit, operational, liquidity risk), including VaR, stress testing and scenario analysis; prepare high-quality audit reports with actionable recommendations; build stakeholder relationships and contribute to the annual Audit Plan; monitor implementation of audit recommendations; mentor team members and drive operational initiatives.
Requirements: 10-15 years of progressive audit experience in financial services with a track record in wholesale banking, institutional trading, and global markets; hands-on trading desk/institutional client/wealth management/structured products experience at top-tier investment or commercial banks; at least 5-10 years in a leadership role; Big 4 experience and Audit Committee engagement advantageous; deep expertise in trading products and risk metrics; knowledge of Basel III; relevant university degree with CFA or FRM mandatory (CIA, CISA, ACA, ACCA, or CPA an added advantage). Corporate language is English.
