The Senior Economist will provide technical leadership in conducting and coordinating the economic analysis underpinning WRI Indonesia's clean industry transition work, contributing substantive economic expertise to the study on 'Green Industrial Policy Package to Support Industrial Net Zero by 2050 in Indonesia.' Work spans empirical trend and cross-country comparative analysis, green demand signal mapping and market sizing, trade and investment exposure analysis including CBAM cost calculations, barrier and market failure diagnosis, industrial and trade policy design, and co-development of macroeconomic scenarios. Responsibilities include building the strategic case for clean industry transition, identifying structural barriers and market failures, contributing economic analysis to policy packages, supporting macroeconomic impact modelling, translating results into policy reports, providing strategic management support, and engaging government stakeholders and research partners. Requires a Master's degree in economics or related field (doctorate an advantage), minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in applied economic research and policy analysis covering industry, energy, climate, or trade policy, demonstrated proficiency in applied quantitative methods and modelling (R, Python, Stata, GAMS or equivalent), strong knowledge of carbon pricing and Indonesia's NEK framework, familiarity with industrial production processes in priority subsectors, working knowledge of trade policy measures like CBAM/EUDR, proven track record leading research projects end-to-end, and fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English. This is a daily rate-based consultant position (max 15 working days/month) running from 1 October 2026 to 31 August 2027, hybrid based in Jakarta, requiring existing work authorization for Indonesia.
