ICCT is an independent, global, non-profit research organization providing data-driven research to advance policies reducing health and environmental impacts of the transportation sector, with offices in Beijing, Berlin, New Delhi, San Francisco, São Paulo, and Washington D.C. ICCT is seeking a self-motivated Associate Researcher or Researcher to support projects on decarbonization of the maritime sector, including alternative fuels and climate & health impact assessments, with emphasis on EU and IMO policy development. Full-time, based in Germany, France, Sweden, or Ireland, with at least the first 6 months in Berlin.

Responsibilities include conducting research on EU and IMO goals and policies for decarbonizing maritime shipping; analyzing energy use and emissions from domestic and international shipping; comparing policy alternatives and developing recommendations; writing publications for technical and non-technical audiences; presenting findings internally and externally; organizing outreach activities such as briefings and workshops; engaging with government entities and NGOs; and reviewing colleagues' and consultants' work. Researcher-level roles may lead research and present to EU/IMO decision-makers.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree or higher (Associate Researcher) or Master's degree or higher (Researcher) in engineering, transportation, economics, environmental science, public policy, or related field; familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in maritime shipping; exceptional quantitative, analytical, and research skills; big data analysis or econometric modeling experience preferred; advanced MS Office/Excel and Python programming preferred; strong interpersonal and communication skills; fluency in English required, German an asset. Occasional EU domestic and international travel required.

Compensation: EUR 70,000 (Associate Researcher) or EUR 84,000 (Researcher) annually, 40 hours/week if based in Germany. Initial 2-year contract with possibility of extension. Benefits include hybrid/remote flexibility, transportation subsidies, professional development, and home-office allowances.
