UNU-Macau, part of the United Nations University system, is dedicated to research, training, and education on digital technologies for sustainable development. Under the supervision of the Senior Researcher/Acting Head of Research, the consultant will contribute to AI state-of-the-art research supporting development of an AI Coaching Tool for Complex AI-Supported Policymaking, helping policymakers improve how they interact with AI on complex policy tasks. Responsibilities include contributing to technical development of a UN-customized AI Coach that helps stakeholders use Large Language Models effectively (improving request formulation, critically assessing responses, recognizing unsupported assumptions or biases); testing the prototype and implementing technical changes iteratively; and contributing to writing at least one publication or technical demo for submission to a top-tier conference or journal. Candidates should hold a master's degree in AI, informatics, computer science, data science, engineering, applied mathematics, or physics (exceptional acceptance for bachelor's degree holders currently enrolled in a master's program with a proven track record). Required: demonstrated technical contribution in human-AI interaction, LLM tools for tutoring, pedagogically informed prompt engineering, or trustworthy/pedagogical use of LLMs. Strong English communication skills required; knowledge of another UN official language is an asset. Contract duration: September 24 to December 10, 2026 (Consultant Contract, CTC), with remuneration based on a daily rate commensurate with experience. No paid leave entitlements under this contract type.
