Dhaka Hospital was established by icddr,b in 1962 primarily to meet the urgent need to treat patients, particularly children, with severe diarrhoeal disease. It has since grown into a nationally important centre treating around 200,000 patients a year, offering a full range of services, particularly for diarrhoeal and respiratory disease, with infants and children representing a high proportion of patients.
Key Responsibilities: The position holder will report to the Head, Hospital and will be responsible for supporting Clinical Fellows in their learning process, conducting clinical rounds for patient management, involvement in clinical research, and reporting issues to the Senior Physicians for resolution. Specific duties include: performing detailed patient evaluations, including comprehensive physical examinations and clinical history documentation; executing tailored treatment plans and medication orders under senior doctors or Unit In-charge supervision; reviewing patient responses to medical interventions following predefined follow-up protocols; participating in rotational roster duty to ensure round-the-clock patient coverage; responding to critical emergencies as an active member of the hospital Code Blue team; maintaining accurate, real-time medical charts, progress notes, diagnoses and medication orders in the SHEBA system; reporting Serious Adverse Events (SAEs) and adverse drug reactions immediately per hospital policy; escalating critical issues and updating supervisors on notifiable patient events; collaborating with physicians and nursing staff for multidisciplinary patient management; engaging in clinical audits, infection control protocols and hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives; coordinating diagnostic workflows with internal laboratories; joining senior doctors on grand rounds; maintaining liaison with the clinical research team, PIs and study coordinators for proper study implementation; conducting eligibility assessments and seeking consent from enrolled patients; recording demographic information and detailed patient history; compiling comprehensive data reports and sharing research findings with supervisors in line with study protocols; and monitoring and mentoring clinical fellows throughout their fellowship and education programme.
Required qualification and experience: MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with completion of one-year internship training; minimum 3 years clinical experience in a reputed hospital (excluding internship training); completed at least 1 year clinical fellowship training at icddr,b. Preference will be given to candidates holding a postgraduate degree in Paediatrics (FCPS, MD, DCH), Medicine, or Public Health (MPH).
Location: Dhaka Hospital, Mohakhali. Number of Positions: 2. Contract Type and duration: CSA basis for 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance. Salary & benefits: Tk. 96,120/- per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances; festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; transport and daycare facilities subject to space availability.
