Job Summary: The Development department is AIUSA's primary driver of income generation, supporting AIUSA's mission and Amnesty International's global human rights initiatives. The Director, Digital Fundraising is a strategic leader who will grow Amnesty's digital fundraising program, responsible for overall supporter lifecycle strategy across email, SMS, web, and other owned digital channels, developing and deepening supporter commitment to meet bold conversion, retention, and revenue goals. The position reports to the National Director of Digital Engagement, works in partnership with the Senior Digital Advertising Strategist, supervises the Digital Production Manager and Supporter Lifecycle Coordinator, and collaborates with teams across Development, Campaigns, Marketing and Communications, and Movement Building and Member Engagement.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead AIUSA's digital fundraising strategy across email, SMS and web, optimizing supporter engagement, donor conversion, retention and lifetime value.
- Develop annual revenue goals, forecasts and growth plans focused on donor conversion, retention, recurring giving, reactivation and upgrades.
- Increase fundraising performance through audience segmentation, personalization, A/B testing and journey optimization.
- Partner with Direct Mail, Major Gifts, Mid-Level Giving and Monthly Giving teams to maximize donor value and cross-channel performance.
- Design and optimize lifecycle programs and digital supporter journeys that convert activists into donors and donors into recurring supporters.
- Oversee digital advocacy campaigns and supporter engagement programs, including reviewing and occasionally writing email, web and SMS copy.
- Manage and develop two staff members overseeing digital production and reporting; manage consultants; establish department-wide standards embedding IDEA principles.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS with at least 10 years relevant experience, or MA/MS with 8 years, and/or sufficient relevant work experience; 3-5 years of direct people management preferred.
- Deep expertise in email, SMS, web and lifecycle marketing strategies driving donor conversion, retention, recurring giving and long-term revenue growth.
- Demonstrated success growing digital fundraising revenue in a nonprofit, political, membership or subscription-based organization; experience managing high-volume programs generating seven-figure annual revenue preferred.
- Experience using eCRM, SMS, web and analytics platforms (Amnesty uses Engaging Networks, Mobile Commons and Revolution Online); proficiency with CMS (e.g., WordPress) and CRM/analytics tools.
- Excellent communication, team, project and budget management skills; proven ability to embed inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA) best practices.
