The Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Authority (AMLA) was established in June 2024 as a new European Union body to safeguard the EU's financial system and its citizens against money laundering and terrorist financing. Located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, it will expand to over 400 staff by the end of 2027. AMLA directly supervises selected cross-border financial sector entities presenting high ML/TF risk, indirectly supervises other financial and non-financial entities, supports and coordinates Financial Intelligence Units (including joint analyses of cross-border cases and the FIU.net system), and complements EU AML/CFT rules through regulatory and implementing technical standards and guidelines.
AMLA is organising a selection procedure for the function of Senior Supervisory Officer (AD 7), a 3-year contract with possibility of extension, full time (40 hrs/week), open to individuals with EU citizenship. The selected candidate(s) will assume ownership of complex workstreams quickly, challenge institutions and evidence constructively, guide less-experienced colleagues, contribute to the development of AMLA's supervisory practices, and may coordinate supervisory activities within Joint Supervisory Teams (JSTs), reporting to a Head of Unit in the Supervision area.
Key responsibilities: lead workstreams and coordinate JSTs and other supervisory structures for selected obliged entities; conduct risk-based supervisory activities including risk assessments, supervisory reviews, thematic assessments and inspections; assess ML/TF risks, governance arrangements, internal controls, customer due diligence frameworks and AML/CFT compliance programmes; form and document evidence-based supervisory judgements and prepare findings, recommendations, supervisory measures and draft decisions; oversee remediation actions; conduct horizontal analyses of emerging risks and trends; cooperate with national AML/CFT supervisors and competent authorities including supervisory colleges; provide expert input into supervisory methodologies and tools; prepare analyses, reports and briefings for management; and provide technical guidance and capacity building.
Eligibility: nationality of an EU Member State; completed university studies of at least 3 years attested by a diploma; thorough knowledge (C1) of one EU official language and satisfactory knowledge (B2) of another; full rights as a citizen; fulfilment of any military service obligations; physical fitness for the duties. Education and experience: a university degree of minimum 4 years' studies followed by at least 6 years of relevant professional experience, or a degree of minimum 3 years' studies followed by at least 7 years. Essential selection criterion: at least 6 years of professional experience in prudential supervision, AML/CFT supervision, compliance management, risk management, AML/CFT audit, or AML/CFT consultancy. Desirable: experience leading/coordinating supervisory reviews, inspections or regulatory assessments; applying or interpreting AML/CFT regulatory requirements; and work in cross-border or interinstitutional environments. Strong command of written and spoken English (min. C1) required. Salary: €7,876.27 at step 1 or €8,207.25 at step 2 / AD 7. Assessments are foreseen for October and November 2026; reserve list (approx. 50-60 candidates, threshold score 65%) valid until 31/12/2027.
