Friends of Europe is a leading think tank that connects people, stimulates debate and triggers change to create a more inclusive, sustainable and forward-looking Europe. Friends of Europe is recruiting a Communications Assistant for a paid traineeship, starting late September/early October, to provide support to its Communications Team. This is a great opportunity to understand the workings of an independent, influential think tank and develop your skills and experience. You will gain an understanding of different communications tools and policy areas, whilst gaining greater in-depth knowledge and expertise in the field. The traineeship combines initial full-time work experience with hands-on training, and is aimed at those who have recently graduated and are eager to acquire their first work experience. The internship is for a six-month period with a possibility of renewal.
Responsibilities: Editing publications (articles, reports, etc.) in line with the in-house style; supporting the creation, planning and scheduling of social media content across platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram and Bluesky, including drafting posts, adapting visuals and supporting live event coverage; contributing to the optimisation of campaigns on a daily basis to maximise performance; assisting in the leverage of various tools and information sources to uncover insights and build strong messages; assisting with updating, formatting and uploading content to the Friends of Europe website (WordPress), including basic SEO optimisation; extracting data and building accurate performance reports with insightful learnings for the think tank's social media and website performance; supporting the production of multimedia content including short-form videos and event clips; performing administrative tasks such as taking minutes, managing correspondence and updating the database; assisting with the conceptualisation, planning and realisation of podcasts; and additional communication, press and multimedia tasks as needed.
Profile: A highly-motivated, hands-on and well-organised personality with a 'can do'/solution-oriented mentality; able to meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail; able to work in a multicultural team with minimum supervision; a particular interest in working for a think tank; flexibility to work at morning, evening and weekend events. Demonstrable knowledge of and interest in communications through a relevant degree or equivalent experience/self-learning; fluent English required (written and spoken native-level fluency is a must); excellent writing skills; interest in editing written materials in English; interest in social media; basic knowledge of social media channels, management tools and analytics; knowledge of and interest in European and global affairs. Added bonus: skills in graphic design, photography, Canva, video editing and/or WordPress.
This position is open to nationals of EU/EEA member states or Switzerland, and to non-EU nationals already with the right to work in Belgium. This is a hybrid role.
