Location: Seattle, WA or Portland, OR (Hybrid). Reporting to: Breaking Barriers Director of Outreach. Compensation: $93,000 to $100,000. Start Date: November 2026.
About Climate Solutions: As a Northwest-based nonprofit for over twenty-five years, Climate Solutions' mission is to accelerate clean energy solutions to the climate crisis, advancing local, regional and state action on climate and clean energy through transformational policies and market-based innovations, powerful partnerships, and a bold vision for solutions at the scale required by climate science.
The Breaking Barriers Collaborative (BBC) empowers Pacific Northwest businesses to accelerate equitable climate action through hands-on programs for businesses ready to lead the transition to a net-zero economy. Since its 2023 launch, BBC has completed seven cohorts of its Fleet Electrification Accelerator and graduated 85 organizations operating over 30,000 vehicles, and recently launched a pilot Small Business EV Launchpad for small, mostly BIPOC-owned businesses.
About the Opportunity: BBC seeks a Communications Manager to help define and implement the program's communication plan and strategies to expand its reach across social media and other platforms. The role engages current and former participants and elevates their stories through equitable storytelling, refines BBC's messaging, and supports outreach to small and large companies to recruit them into BBC programming.
Key priorities: (1) Expand BBC's presence across multi-media platforms (35%) - grow social media presence, develop and implement a communication plan with the Director of Outreach, own the Mailchimp email marketing platform including newsletters and campaigns, maintain an editorial calendar across blog/social/email, manage BBC's website and Google Analytics monitoring, produce social content (videos, graphics), write long-form blog posts on fleet electrification, track and report communications metrics, and develop recruitment and marketing materials for corporate decision-makers. (2) Equitable storytelling through video production and writing (30%) - create, produce and edit participant videos; write and promote press releases, pitch memos, blogs and one-pagers; interview participants in non-transactional, equitable ways. (3) Build trust-based relationships within community (25%) - cultivate relationships with local news outlets, reporters and editors; participate in community events; engage the fleet electrification community through culturally responsive practices. (4) Cross-team collaboration and organizational participation (10%) - collaborate with the Climate Solutions Communications and Engagement team, participate in staff meetings, training and racial equity conversations, and incorporate Climate Solutions' equity, diversity and inclusion commitments into all aspects of the job.
Who you are: committed to Climate Solutions' and BBC's mission and to equity, diversity and inclusion; a skilled storyteller who distills complex fleet electrification topics into engaging content across press releases, blogs, social posts and talking points; efficient with core communications tools and adaptable to evolving media channels; able to speak the language of both mission and ROI, translating BBC's programs into a business case. EV knowledge is a plus but not required.
