Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organization working to reduce and prevent violence, protect civilians and build peace together with communities in countries affected by violent conflict through unarmed civilian protection (UCP) programming.

The National Protection Officer (NPO) carries out implementation of activities at field level, supporting UCP for violence-prevention in areas affected by conflict. The position is based in Sinjar and is open to candidates from Sinjar district only.

Key Responsibilities:

Information Gathering and Contextual Analysis
- Assist with information gathering and context analysis to inform project planning
- Engage and build relationships with all stakeholders including community members, local leaders, government authorities, police, army, non-state armed groups, and NGOs
- Maintain confidentiality of information gathered

Proactive Community Engagement
- Proactively engage with diverse communities facing physical and digital risks
- Facilitate meetings with community members and stakeholders
- Assist communities in assessing their security situation
- Take a leading role in setting up community peace teams (CPTs) including Youth and Women Peace Teams
- Co-facilitate training and workshops for CPTs, duty bearers, and other stakeholders

Specific UCP Interventions
- Implement UCP strategies appropriate to context within NP's values and strategic objectives
- Promote trust building and peaceful co-existence among divided communities across ethno-religious lines
- Promote and integrate digital protection and digital peacebuilding practices
- Provide protective presence and accompaniment to groups and persons at risk when appropriate
- Support community members under threat, working with service providers and managing follow-up

Reporting
- Lead timely drafting of activity reports
- Support compiling weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as delegated

Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience working in an NGO or similar organization
- Written and spoken English an advantage
- University degree or diploma an advantage
- Good skills in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong commitment to civilian safety and security and community trust-building
- Good knowledge of the conflict context in Iraq and Sinjar area
- Experience working on digital protection and peacebuilding
- Good interpersonal, cross-cultural communication, and teamworking skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage information with discretion
