About Etijah
Youth and Development Consultancy Institute – Etijah is a non-profit organization specialized in developing, improving and disseminating development methodologies in the field of youth and community development. Based in Cairo. Etijah primary concern is to create and tailor up-to-date and high-quality development methodologies, research tools, applicable practices of youth development and training delivery models, to be able to qualify youth by providing them with the skills, know-how, and aptitudes, as well as contribute in building the capacity of governmental and non-governmental youth-serving organizations. Our role is to provide youth with direct access to unconditional participation by providing them with practical tools and models for developing community-wide initiatives.
Background
Etijah, in partnership with UNHCR, is implementing a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response Project through Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) in Cairo (Nasr City) and Alexandria. The project aims to strengthen GBV prevention efforts by providing awareness-raising activities that enhance participants’ knowledge of GBV, harmful practices, available services, and safe referral pathways.
To support project implementation, Etijah seeks to engage qualified consultants to facilitate GBV awareness sessions for women and girls who are survivors of GBV or at risk of GBV.
Objective of the Assignment
The consultant will design and facilitate interactive GBV awareness sessions that increase participants’ understanding of:
• Gender-Based Violence (GBV) concepts and forms.
• Harmful practices affecting women and girls.
• Prevention and risk mitigation measures.
• Available GBV services and referral pathways.
• Safety planning and available support mechanisms.
• Women’s rights and available protection services.
The sessions should promote participation, respect confidentiality, and create a safe and supportive learning environment.
Scope of Work
The consultant will be responsible for:
• Preparing session plans and facilitation materials.
• Delivering interactive awareness sessions using participatory methodologies.
• Encouraging active participation while ensuring a survivor-centered approach.
• Coordinating with the Safe Space Coordinator regarding session scheduling.
• Reporting any protection concerns in accordance with established referral procedures.
• Submitting a brief session report after each activity.
Target Group
The sessions will target:
• Women and girls who are survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) or at risk of GBV.
Each session will accommodate approximately 15 participants.
Duration of the Sessions
• Each awareness session will last 2–3 hours.
• The exact schedule and number of sessions will be agreed upon with Etijah.
Location
Sessions will be conducted at Etijah Women and Girls Safe Spaces located in:
• Nasr City, Cairo.
• Alexandria.
Deliverables
The consultant will be expected to submit:
• Session plan and facilitation materials (if newly developed).
• Signed attendance sheet for each session.
• Brief narrative report summarizing:
o Topics covered.
o Number of participants.
o Key observations.
o Challenges encountered.
o Recommendations (if applicable).
Required Qualifications
The consultant should possess:
• A university degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Gender Studies, Human Rights, or another relevant field.
• At least 3 years of experience in facilitating GBV, protection, or psychosocial awareness sessions.
• Strong knowledge of GBV core concepts, guiding principles, and survivor-centered approaches.
• Experience working with refugees, asylum seekers, or vulnerable communities is highly desirable.
• Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
Reporting Line
The consultant will report directly to the Women and Girls Safe Space Coordinator and work closely with the GBV team throughout the assignment.
Payment
Payment will be made upon satisfactory completion of the assigned sessions and submission of all required deliverables, in accordance with Etijah’s financial procedures and the signed consultancy agreement.
Transportation
No transportation costs will be covered under this consultancy. The consultant is responsible for arranging transportation to and from the assigned location.
Confidentiality and Code of Conduct
The consultant shall:
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all participants and information obtained during the assignment.
• Adhere to Etijah’s safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), Child Safeguarding, and Code of Conduct policies.
Apply a survivor-centered approach throughout all interactions with participants.
