Regional Coordinator Access to Justice Programme - Africa

We offer you an exciting and varied, useful and meaningful job, within a team that wants to make a difference for children in situations of great vulnerability.

Start date: 1.08.2026

Duration: 24 months

Activity rate: 100%

Place of work: Dakar, Senegal

Deadline for sending applications: Terre des hommes does not set a deadline for applications for this position, recruitment is open until the position is filled.

Terre des hommes (Tdh):
The Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh), with its headquarters in Lausanne and its office in Zurich, is the largest Swiss children's rights organisation with more than 2000 employees worldwide. We are committed to working with children to guarantee their rights, protect their lives and improve their well-being. We achieve this through our innovative programs in the areas of health, migration and access to justice, designed to have a positive and lasting impact.

Background:
Tdh is reorganising its organisational model in order to get closer to children and young people in vulnerable situations. In Tdh's new organisational model, the head office takes on the role of a centre of expertise to act effectively in favour of the respect, protection and promotion of children's rights and to ensure overall steering, strategy, policies, monitoring and compliance as well as thought leadership. The regional offices play a central strategic role in Tdh's new organisational model. Their main mission is to strengthen the relevance, quality and impact of interventions as well as the representation and development of strategic partnerships at the regional level. As part of the opening of its Africa regional office in September 2025, Tdh is recruiting a regional coordinator for the Access to Justice (A2J) programme.

The Foundation's activities are structured on the basis of three priority programmes (access to justice, children and young people on the move, maternal and child health) as well as on two cross-cutting areas of expertise (child protection and water/sanitation). In Africa, Tdh intervenes directly and in partnership with civil society organisations in 8 countries (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Guinea-Conakry, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria and Senegal) and via partnerships in 8 other countries (Benin, Cameroon, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Uganda, Tunisia and Togo).

Systems strengthening, as Tdh practices and envisages it at the level of the justice programme, refers to an approach that aims to sustainably improve all the components of a judicial system (state and customary institutions, human capacities, coordination, accountability), rather than financing isolated interventions. Tdh and its national partners stimulate local ownership and alignment with national strategies. They invest in the foundations of the system so that progress is widespread, inclusive, and sustainable over time.

Tdh places the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of its action and considers children as rights holders: States and actors (local authorities, social services, NGOs, private sector) are debtors of obligations and are therefore liable. Tdh's interventions are based on the principles of non-discrimination, the best interests of the child, the right to survival and development, and the participation of the child in decisions that concern him/her.

For this position, the main responsibilities are as follows:
  • Strategic management: contribute to the definition, deployment and monitoring of the regional strategy in Access to Justice, in line with institutional orientations (theories of change, programmatic management, reference to the Institutional Strategic Plan).
  • Program coordination: overseeing a portfolio of projects, ensuring the quality, coherence and impact of interventions, as well as their alignment with regional priorities.
  • Monitoring and performance: ensuring the measurement of results, the monitoring of indicators, the analysis of data and the implementation of corrective actions if necessary.
  • Quality and technical support: support field teams to strengthen the quality of projects, disseminate the organization's standards, methodologies and approaches.
  • Resource mobilization: Identify funding opportunities, contribute to the development of proposals, and maintain relationships with donors at the regional level.
  • Partnership development: building and consolidating strategic partnerships with local, institutional and international actors, and supporting the localisation of aid.
  • Advocacy and Representation: Contribute to advocacy strategies, coordinate regional initiatives, and represent the organization in specialized networks and forums.
  • Knowledge management: promote capitalization, the sharing of best practices and the strengthening of the technical capacities of teams.
  • Management: supervise technical teams, participate in recruitment and promote a work culture in line with the values and policies of the organization.
**The full Job Description will be shared with shortlisted candidates**
