About Global Greengrants Fund:
Global Greengrants Fund (GGF) supports grassroots activists and civil society organisations around the world working to address environmental and social justice in over 160 countries.  GGF applies a participatory and decentralised model in making grants to grassroots groups through regional and thematic boards of advisors, global partner networks, and partner funds to support grassroots environmental and social justice action. Global Greengrants Fund believes solutions to environmental harm and social injustice come from people whose lives are most impacted. Every day, our global network of people on the frontlines and donors comes together to support communities to protect their ways of life and our planet. Because when local people have a say in the health of their food, water, and resources, they are forces for change.

Global Greengrants Fund comprises two organisations located in the USA, Global Greengrants Fund Inc. (established in 1993), and Global Greengrants Fund UK (established in 2012). The two organisations work closely together with a shared grantmaking programme and strategic collaboration at the senior leadership level.

In 2026, Global Greengrants Fund is amid a transformative journey in which we collectively centre our values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion, and organisational care in our work, and rediscover our identity and potential after 30 years of work. The Grants Manager needs to understand the challenges and opportunities that come with these transformations and be able to remain flexible, steady, and adaptable.

The Role:
Global Greengrants Fund is looking to hire a committed and passionate individual who will play a key role in collaborating across teams and our network to carry out GGF’s grantmaking. The Grants Manager is responsible for ensuring Global Greengrants’ grantmaking program is legally compliant, efficient, and not overly burdensome on our advisory network. The Grants Manager is responsible for leading on grants management strategy, optimization, and collaboration across the organization – including within our shared grantmaking program with Global Greengrants Fund UK.

The Grants Manager will maintain and update policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with US and UK regulations as well as local regulations for our grantees. They will be lead administrators for our grants management system, SmartSimple, providing oversight to ensure the integrity of data, strengthening processes within the system, and building the understanding and use of information for other departments in the organization. The Grants Manager will be a resource for the Grants Associates by addressing acute issues with particular grants, providing guidance on approaching challenges, and identifying common issues to address for the entire team.

Within the current accountability structures, the Grants Manager is line-managed by the Director of Grants Management and Operations. The Grants Manager will be part of the Grants Management team, leading the grants management function, which comprises several Grants Managers and Grants Associates. The Grants Managers will each hold leadership roles within the Global Grants Management Team at the same time as holding distinct portfolios of work with a deeper focus to meet the needs of the team, the organization, and the wider Global Greengrants community.

The Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate will have significant relevant experience in a similar role within a charitable, environmental, development, social justice, feminist, gender, human rights, and/or grantmaking organisation. They will bring strong expertise in grants management, including compliance, due diligence, and financial oversight, with a deep understanding of international grantmaking regulations, particularly IRS regulations in the US and HMRC and Charity Commission regulations in the UK.

They will demonstrate experience leading or strengthening grants management systems and processes, including oversight of grants management databases such as SmartSimple, and will be confident managing system architecture, data integrity, and optimization to support organizational needs. They will be comfortable acting as a resource to colleagues, supporting learning, troubleshooting challenges, and strengthening the use of systems across teams.

They will bring strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information, support decision-making, and contribute to the continuous improvement of grantmaking processes and policies. They will demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to navigate complexity, risk, and competing priorities in a global organization.

They will have excellent organizational and administrative skills, with a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and accountability. They will be able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining clarity and consistency in their work.

They will demonstrate strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with experience working collaboratively across teams and functions, including Programs, Finance, and Fundraising. They will be comfortable navigating complex organizational dynamics and building trust across a diverse, global network.

The right candidate will understand Global Greengrants Fund’s core values and be committed to the guiding principles and mission of Global Greengrants Fund, and ensure they uphold them in the way they take up the responsibilities of the role. They will bring a commitment to equity, transparency, and accountability, along with an understanding of intersectional and anti-oppression frameworks and their implications for grantmaking practices. They will be comfortable giving, receiving, and constructively working with feedback, and will contribute to a values-aligned environment of trust, learning, and shared responsibility. They are self-reflective and passionate about multi-directional accountability. Familiarity with social and environmental justice movements and relevant frameworks would be an advantage.

They will thrive in a virtual, globally distributed environment, bringing adaptability, initiative, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is an advantage. Relevant lived experience related to GGF’s work and community would be an asset.
