The Sustainable Business Coordinator will work under the direction of the Sustainability Coordinator, supporting program implementation, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability initiatives.

Brighton is looking to hire a self-starting individual to help build and run a brand-new Sustainable Business Program focused on businesses across the community. Primary responsibilities for success include engaging directly with local businesses to promote the benefits of the Colorado Green Business Network (CGBN), providing custom sustainability reports as a trained Energy Efficiency & Sustainable Business Program Coordinator, providing ongoing support to businesses by connecting them to funding and other resources.
This is a part-time (30 hour), temporary position supported by grant funding through the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) Building Policy Collaborative sub-award program. The position is expected to continue for approximately four (4) years, with funding currently anticipated through October 2029. Ongoing employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding and may be subject to early termination if funding is reduced or discontinued.
City Hall business hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Flexible scheduling, including a hybrid of remote and in-office work, may be considered.

Examples of Duties for Success

• Maintain Sustainable Business Program standards, including initial assessments, recertifications, program audits, criteria updates, and reporting.

• Maintain regular communication with and participate in training through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) CGBN program.

• Engage businesses currently participating in CGBN and develop strategic work plans to expand Adams County's roster of certified businesses.

• Serve as a subject matter expert providing consulting and concierge services to businesses seeking to advance building decarbonization.

• Connect businesses with information, rebates, and resources to reduce environmental impact in areas such as business operations, energy efficiency, transportation, waste, and water.

• Support businesses in achieving and maintaining certification requirements.

• Track program metrics, including energy and cost savings, at onboarding and during recertification.

• Develop case studies (e.g., cost-benefit analyses, energy and water savings) to demonstrate the value of sustainability practices and program participation.

• Prepare annual reports highlighting program impacts and outcomes.

• Promote and market the CGBN program, participating businesses, and the value of sustainability and decarbonization efforts.

• Collaborate with County partners, the broader business community, and other green business programs.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications for Success

• Knowledge of current sustainability best practices, green certification programs, and energy assessments

• Bilingual ability, preferably Spanish, but not required

• Self-starter, able to think creatively about problems and solutions.

• Strong communication skills.

• A mission-driven mindset and the desire to tackle building decarbonization.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for working in a public-facing role.

• An ability to collaborate with departments and the business community.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work will largely take place at different businesses throughout unincorporated Adams County. In office days will take place at the Adams County Government Center which constitutes a standard office environment, requiring sitting or standing for extended periods of time, as well as extended computer use and time on a phone. May involve occasional lifting of boxes and other materials weighing over 20 lbs.
Education

Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Public Administration, Management, Business, or other related fields.
Preferred Experience or Special Qualifications

Three (3) years of professional or technical level experience planning the administrative aspects of a program(s). One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Other Qualifications

Valid Colorado driver's license and a good driving record.
